To be born a ‘human being’ is a biological process but ‘being human’ is much more than that. Human life is the epitome of all creation and deserves to be lived better than being spent in mere outer material pursuits. A delicate balance of the inner and outer spheres of one’s existence, alone makes life meaningful. This effort to help one balance the inside and outside, while progressively being a better human - who is a better individual, better professional, and more importantly a better world citizen, is the aim of the International Institute for Human Values Education (IIHVE), an initiative of the One World One Family Mission (OWOF), the global humanitarian organisation led by the visionary humanitarian, Sri Madhusudan Sai, active in 100 countries.

The Institute promotes education that develops both intellectual excellence and compassionate character. It is dedicated to nurturing universal human values through education, cultural immersion and experiential learning.

At a time when the world is grappling with moral fragmentation and emotional disconnection, this institute will seek to restore the primacy of compassion, integrity, and inner wisdom, starting with those who shape the minds of future generations: educators.

The Institute will offer transformative training programmes and workshops for educators, sensitising them to the importance of human values in education. These programmes will equip educators with tools to embody and impart empathy, resilience, and ethical thinking in their students, while also deepening their own personal growth. These programmes will be inclusive, adaptable, and rooted in both contemporary pedagogy and timeless wisdom.

The initiatives under IIHVE will serve as a beacon for youth, educators and seekers worldwide, sowing seeds for a more peaceful, compassionate and harmonious world.

Who We Are

Translating vision into values

IIHVE is an initiative of the One World One Family Mission (OWOF), the global humanitarian organisation led by the visionary humanitarian Sri Madhusudan Sai, active in 100 countries.

Guided by the Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence — the higher education wing of the One World One Family Mission — IIHVE translates OWOF's educational vision into practical programmes that restore compassion and inner wisdom within learning environments.

The Institute partners with schools, universities, community organisations and digital platforms to make values education accessible, culturally relevant and scalable.

Vision

To create a more peaceful, compassionate and harmonious world by placing universal human values at the heart of education, nurturing intercultural understanding, ethical leadership and cultivating a deep sense of shared humanity.

Mission

To nurture universal human values and integrate values education into formal and informal learning worldwide through a three‑pronged approach: a sequenced curriculum spanning early childhood to higher education; an open online learning platform offering free courses on human values; and transformative sensitisation workshops and modules for educators that begins with their own self‑transformation. IIHVE empowers learners and educators to embody compassion, integrity and inner wisdom so they may build kinder, more ethical and connected communities.

Research & Evidence

Why values education matters

Leading international organisations recognise that social and emotional competencies are essential for success in education and life.

OECD

OECD research indicates that students with stronger social and emotional skills experience higher academic achievement, greater wellbeing, healthier relationships and stronger career aspirations.

UNICEF

UNICEF similarly identifies these competencies as fundamental to children's resilience, mental health and lifelong development.

The International Institute for Human Values Education believes values education is a mindful, practical route to nurture the inner capacities that sustain ethical, compassionate lives.

Our Four Pillars

How we bring values to education

  • The Value Educate the World (VEW) programme, a cornerstone of the International Institute for Human Values Education, delivers a sequenced human values curriculum from early childhood through higher education.

At its heart is the Be Good, See Good, Do Good book series: 15 age-appropriate volumes for learners aged 3 to Grade 12, now complemented by a new four-year higher-education series.

Launched in 2021 for preschool through high school, VEW is being extended into undergraduate curricula to meet the growing ethical and leadership challenges students face as they enter adulthood. Integrating values education at the tertiary level supports thoughtful decision-making, long-term wellbeing over short-term gain, and the formation of socially responsible citizens and leaders.

The programmes are executed locally by the national offices and chapters of the One World One Family Mission and also amplified through strategic collaborations with community partners and civil-society organisations, ensuring culturally relevant delivery and sustained impact.

  • The Institute of Human Values (iohv.org) is the International Institute for Human Values Education’s open online platform offering free courses through community learning pathways.

IOHV expands access to values education through a diverse, free course catalogue — from Mindful Teaching for educators and Dynamic Parenting for caregivers, to Compassionate Healthcare for healthcare professionals, Dharmic Management for leaders, Love Without Duty for nonprofit professionals, and introductory pathways into Indian Culture and Spirituality — so students, families and professionals can learn at their own pace and apply values across life and work. Each course serves as a steady guide on the path of inner transformation, helping learners shape the qualities within themselves that ultimately reshape the world beyond them.

  • The Professional Development Workshops form a core pillar of IIHVE’s work to embed human values across education systems.

Delivered year-round, these programmes deepen educators’ understanding of IIHVE’s framework and equip them with practical, research-informed strategies to integrate values into curriculum, pedagogy and campus life. Central to the workshops is an emphasis on self-transformation: educators are supported to cultivate their own inner resources so they can model integrity, compassion and ethical leadership in everyday practice.

  • A Values Education Cell has been established by the Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence (SSSUHE) of the One World One Family Mission.

This Cell embeds values learning within university governance by reporting directly to each Vice-Chancellor’s or Dean’s office. Created through signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with partner universities in India to begin with, the Cell coordinates curriculum adoption, faculty development, campus activities and joint symposiums in close collaboration with SSSUHE. Similar agreements are also planned internationally.

Professional Development Workshops for Educators

The Professional Development Workshops form a core pillar of IIHVE’s work to embed human values across education systems.

Purpose & Objectives
  • Strengthen the inner journey of educators.

  • Encourage reflective practice so educators continually refine how they relate and react.

  • Build institutional momentum by creating educator leaders who champion values-centred change across departments and campuses.

  • Translate values into action through classroom strategies, assessment approaches and community engagement projects.

Who the Programmes Serve
  •  Pre-service — educators preparing to enter the profession and seeking a values-centred foundation.

  • In-service — educators who want to enrich classroom practice and relationships.

  • School and university leaders responsible for policy, curriculum design and institutional culture.

  •  Mentors and trainers who will cascade training and sustain practice within institutions

Delivery Formats
  • The Institute offers flexible delivery to meet institutional needs: intensive retreats, modular in-service sessions, and blended online-offline courses. The workshops can be customised for cultural context, grade level and institutional priorities.

Values Education Cell

A Values Education Cell has been established by the Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence (SSSUHE) of the One World One Family Mission.

Implementation & Support

With the Year-1 undergraduate module ready, partner universities are invited to implement the curriculum while SSSUHE provides hands-on support for rollout, mentoring, evaluation and regular joint events. The Cell at each university will ensure institutional ownership, academic oversight and culturally relevant delivery so values education becomes an enduring part of campus life.

Recognition & Assessment

SSSUHE will support the institutionalisation of Gold Medals for Human Excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the partner universities. These awards will be conferred on students who demonstrate:

  • Exceptional commitment to values

  • Excellence in character and leadership

  • Significant contributions to social service and community harmony

A joint selection committee, with representatives from SSSUHE and the partner university, will oversee nominations and award decisions.

Measuring Humaneness

To translate values into measurable practice, SSSUHE has developed the Human Excellence Quotient and Humane Quotient models. These assessment tools quantify human excellence and humaneness in individuals, enabling students and institutions to track progress, set goals and strengthen values-based action.

Global Outreach

The Values Education Cell model will be extended to universities worldwide through further MoUs, fostering a global network of institutions committed to nurturing character, service and ethical leadership.
